Last weekend was a blast! Our ScaleJam team was part of the Global Game Jam – Plovdiv edition. This hackathon is a tradition for our colleagues from Plovdiv. The Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam event. Think of it as a hackathon, focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world, we could come together, be creative, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games – it is very universal.
This year we gathered all powers to create one educational quest game for kids to represent and follow the official theme of the event: “What home means to you?”.
We all know that there is no place like home. The feeling of getting a flashback from your best childhood memories – playing in the backyard of your Grandma’s country house, the song of the crickets during the warm summer nights and the best of all – the taste of the traditional Bulgarian “Grandmas’s mekichki”.We brought back the jury and the audience to those endless and full of adventures summer breaks by bringing-in some homemade mekichki at the event. We successfully managed to recreate this sweet memory to the ones, who have forgotten of how simpler and fun things were, back when we were kids.
Our team of superheroes in the faces of Vasil Georgiev (Technical Lead), Galina Nankova (HR Business Partner), Daniel Dinev (Software Engineer) and Viktoria Smilyanova (HR Specialist) developed a game names “Vicky’s adventure”, which successfully took all Game Jam participants back to their childhood memories through the power of technology.
We all took a glance down our memory lanes and felt the wave of nostalgia with “Vicky’s adventure”. During the game, your loyal friend – Sharo the dog, will be right by your side during the whole quest and will give you valuable hints for the different missions – how to recognize the cows from the chickens and feed them, when to water the veggies and the flowers in Granny’s garden. When the players successfully completed all tasks and quests, they enjoyed a well-deserved award – Mekichki and Airyan. What could be more traditional that this type of breakfast?
We met great competition from the other 13 digital games and 4 board games, presented during the Jam. Anyways the most important award for us, the ScaleJam team was the love of the audience and of course having fun and gathering forces to deliver joy via developing a cool game.We always strive to participate in such events, which bring likeminded people together.
